UFC 165 Results: Renan Barao Knocks Out Eddie Wineland and Successfully Defends His Championship

By bjpenndotcom - September 21, 2013

Both Barao and Wineland opened up the fight bouncing on their feet, very active. We didn’t see any significant strikes landed early on in the first but Barao landed some serious leg kicks. Towards the end when Barao seemed to have found his distance, he connected with his hooks constantly.

The start of Round 2 saw Wineland a bit more aggressive, pressing the action. Wineland seemed to be going in the right path as he was connecting with nice shots until he ate Barao’s foot. Barao threw a beautiful spinning back kick that crashed into Eddie Wineland’s face. Wineland fell to the ground and Barao didn’t give him any time to recover. After a series of unanswered punches, the referee pulled Barao off of Wineland.

This was the first spinning back kick in UFC history.
