| We broke word a few days ago that the UFC was negotiating with Chad “Money” Mendes (14-1 MMA) and Clay Guida (30-13 MMA) on trying to get their fight rescheduled for the August 31st UFC 164 event in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The two were supposed to fight each other at the recent UFC on FOX 7 card but Guida sustained an injury that forced him to withdraw from the bout. Mendes went on to impressively KO Darren Elkins at the event and with Guida now healthy the UFC decided to reschedule that bout for the end of summer.
The fight was finalized and announced as part of UFC 164 yesterday afternoon. The two will scrap on the PPV segment of the fight card on August 31st with the winner likely getting very close to a title shot against Aldo or Pettis, depending on the outcome of that fight.
UFC 164 now has three and a half fights finalized for its card and aside from the Mendes/Guida fight the show will also feature Brandon Vera’s return to the heavyweight division as he takes on Big Ben Rothwell. No main-event has been scheduled yet.
Here is how the card stacks up at this point:
UFC 164 Main Event:
UFC 164 PPV Main Card Fights (7 p.m. PT):
UFC 164 FX “Prelims” (5 p.m. PT):
UFC 164 Facebook “Prelims” (3:30 p.m. PT):
