Mark Hunt and Junior Dos Santos are set to fight at UFC 160 in what promises to be an exciting battle between two high-level strikers- only Mark Hunt believes that Dos Santos won’t be willing to exchange punches and kicks on the feet for long.
Mark Hunt (9-7) is riding an impressive 4-fight win streak, most recently defeating Stefan Struve in the 3rd round via TKO. Former UFC heavyweight champion, Junior Dos Santos (15-2), was supposed to fight Alistair Overeem at UFC 160 until an injury forced “The Reem” to pull out of the fight. The UFC asked Hunt, who is a crowd favorite with his recent UFC success, to fill in for Overeem. In a recent UFC pre-fight interview, Hunt gave his opinion on his fight with Dos Santos.
“I do think he’s going to try to take the fight to the mat once he realizes that I have a huge aresenal,” said Hunt about Dos Santos. For Hunt, despite showing tremendous growth in his ground skills in his fight against Stefan Struve, a ground fight increases his chance for defeat. Nevertheless, the New Zealand native is confident in his abilities.
“He was a world champion, but we’re at the top level. I’ve been fighting at the top level my whole career… At the top level I’ve taken on the best fighters. I can defeat Junior Dos Santos.”
If he can defeat Dos Santos in impressive fashion, UFC President Dana White has already said that Hunt could receive a title shot.
“It’s the pinnacle for any fighter, to be world champion or to fight for it. The opportunity is what I’ve always wanted. And the opportunity is what I need. If I beat Junior Dos Santos, then yes, I will fight for the world title.”
