Trevor Smith Broke His Hand in Fight of the Night Loss to Ed Herman

| To add a little more sting to his already tough defeat this past weekend we’re catching news that UFC middleweight Trevor Smith suffered a broken hand in his UFC on FOX 8 Fight of the Night performance against Ed Herman.

The two men went to war on the preliminary card in one of the most entertaining fights of the night at Key Arena in Seattle, Washington on Saturday but it was Herman that squeaked out the split-decision victory over Smith. It seemed that Smith was getting the better of the fight in the opening frames but as the fight slowly wore on it was Herman that began to land the better, more abundant strikes, sprinkled with a couple key takedowns that may have won him the fight.

It was apparent early on in the bout that Smith was throwing a lot of knees and kicks and now that we know his hand was broken in the early goings of this bout we can assume that may have had something to do with it.

We first found out the news from the UFC President himself, Dana White.

“Smith had a broken hand in the fight which makes him even more impressive!!!!,” White wrote on his official Twitter account.

Smith later posted a picture of the swollen hand on his official twitter account as well.

Although Smith lost the bout the extra $50K for his Fight of the Night performance will likely bring a small smile to his face as he lets the hand mend in the coming weeks. We’ll keep an eye on the injury and update the fans with any news that the UFC breaks concerning Smith, his injury, or any upcoming bout agreements.
