With rumors of Alistar Overeem joining the famed Team Jackson/Winkeljohn, the MMA world is buzzing with what this could mean for the Dutch Heavyweight. One person that it could potentially affect is UFC Heavyweight Travis Browne, who has fought Overeem in the past. However, Browne has no problems training with Overeem. In fact, he welcomes it, according to an interview with MMAjunkie. In the interview, Browne claims that there are no grudges or animosity preventing the two from training together, saying: “I actually embrace the idea,” Browne said:

“When you have top athletes that are in the same weight class, sometimes they can butt heads, but the way I look at it is iron sharpening iron. If the stars ever align again and him and I meet in the cage, then it will be an even better fight than it was last time…If you personally don’t get along with somebody, that doesn’t mean they can’t help you professionally,” Browne said. “I’ve personally never had any issues with Overeem, and professionally, I’ve never had any issues with him.”

He goes on to describe how the two training together could be mutually beneficial, saying “Just having somebody there to push you when you need it is great…It’s not going to be about just me benefiting from this. He’s going to learn a lot too being out here at Jackson’s…I don’t have a problem with inviting other heavyweights in. If they train hard in the gym and they work their way up to fight me or I work my way up to fight them, then it is what it is.”

The two fought at UFC on Fox Sports 1, where Browne survived a ferocious onslaught of knees and punches from Overeem to come back and win via front kick KO. Browne (16-1-1, 7-1-1 UFC) last fought at UFC 168, where he TKO’d Josh Barnett in a minute. He next fights Fabricio Werdum this weekend, in what is most likely a number one contender  match. Overeem (37-13, 2-2 UFC), last fought at UFC 169, where he earned a decision victory over Frank Mir. He does not yet have a fight booking.
