Travis Browne: “I don’t give a shit about (respect). I’m here to… go after that belt.”

Respect is something earned. And in the grueling world of Mixed Martial Arts gaining that respect isn’t always easy.

Furthermore, gaining respect in the stacked Heavyweight Division of the UFC, where the baddest men on the planet reign supreme, is even more daunting of a task.

However, there is on man in the division who no longer cares about gaining respect, but instead has his eyes set on something that could be considered much more rewarding, the UFC Heavyweight title.

For top Heavyweight contender Travis “Hapa” Browne getting his hands on the title trumps any pursuit for respect from his fellow fighters.

“If you had asked me about respect two years ago, I would have said I was so happy I’m finally getting it,” Browne said to Bleacher Report. “But now I’m in the mindset where I don’t give a shit about that. I’m here to do one thing and that is to go after that belt. Until I have that belt, defended that belt and left a legacy with my name and what I’ve done in that cage, then I’ll have time to relax and take in what I’ve done. Right now, it’s time for me to bust my ass, work hard and go out there and do what I know I can. Then I’ll have the next 50 or 60 years of my life to enjoy it.”

Although the Hawaiian Browne boasts about not caring about respect it’s no question that he gained heaps of it with his first round knockout of Alistain Overeem at UFC Fight Night 27, and if he manages to put down the dangerous veteran Josh Barnett at UFC 168 this Saturday in Las Vegas, NV he is sure to earn the respect of many, fans and fighters alike.

But according to Browne, he won’t be happy until he has defeats current UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez and has his hands on UFC Gold.
