Tim Kennedy Tells Vitor Belfort to ‘Fight Clean, Stop Using Steroids’

Only a few weeks ago, Vitor Belfort shunned the idea of facing Tim Kennedy, saying that he would only fight for the belt or in a super fight at another weight.  Not one to be dismissed so easily, Kennedy recently spoke out against Vitor Belfort’s use of Testosterone Replacement Therapy, telling the Brazilian middleweight to ‘fight clean.’

UFC middleweight fighter, Tim Kennedy, spoke out in a recent interview with Bleacher Report against Vitor Belfort’s use of testosterone.

The history between the two is somewhat brief.  The UFC began looking at a match between Kennedy, the former U.S. Army veteran, and Vitor Belfort, former UFC light heavyweight champion.  Belfort was quick to dismiss that match-up, stating that he would only fight for a title at 185 lbs. and nothing less.

Now, as the UFC went on to place both men in competitive fights Belfort facing Dan Henderson, and Kennedy fighting Lyoto Machida, Kennedy had a little more to say on the issue.

In a recent interview with Bleacher Report, Kennedy expanded on his earlier criticism that Belfort fights almost exclusively in Brazil now, a place where he can use Testosterone Replacement Therapy.

The real competition for those two,” Kennedy said of Belfort and Henderson, “is who is going to have the highest testosterone levels during the fight camp.  Just take their testosterone levels from four weeks out, and that’s the winner of the fight, no reason for these guys to even meet in the cage.

If you have a guy who can only fight in a scenario where he’s injecting synthetic testosterone into his body, he shouldn’t be fighting… This is mixed martial arts integrity, legacy, discipline this is not Mark McGwire baseball.  He almost killed the sport of baseball.  Somebody need to come to grips.  This is damaging the sport.

About the potential fight between himself and Belfort, Kennedy had more to say.

His requirement to fight me was to fight me in Brazil.  If I get a call to fight, I’m told it’s at this time, at this place and I accept.  I don’t go around being like, ‘well, I’m only going to fight so-and-so if we meet in Austin, Texas.’  Fight clean, stop using steroids.”

While both men have tough fights ahead of them, it seems that this situation can build to a fight between Kennedy and Belfort sometime in the near future.
