Next week, Thiago Silva will have one of the most important meetings of his life.
If I had said that sentence just a month ago, you would probably assume I meant a meeting with Dana White, to discuss some big-fight opportunity coming Silva’s way. But unfortunately for Silva, that’s not the case – the “meeting” he will be attending is a bond hearing, which will determine if Silva will be leaving his jail cell anytime soon.
As we reported on BJPenn.com, Silva allegedly drove to Pablo Popovitch’s jiu-jitsu school on February 6th, and threatened to shoot not only his estranged wife, Thaysa, but everyone else in the building as well. Silva gave Thaysa an ultimatum: either Silva opens fire on the school, or Popovitch comes outside for a face-to-face chat. Popovitch eventually did the smart thing and called the police, but Silva decided to flee the scene and head home, barricading himself inside for a short amount of time, before finally giving himself up to the SWAT team that had been sent to his house. He was then charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a weapon, one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and one count of resisting an officer without violence.
Silva is currently being held at the Broward County jail without bond.
