Thiago Alves out at UFC on FS1 1, Mike Pyle Steps in to Face Matt Brown

| News just broke that UFC welterweight Thiago “Pitbull” Alves has been pulled from the upcoming August 17th UFC on FOX Sports1: 1 card in Boston. Alves was slated to take on Matt Brown on the main card of that event but has been removed due to injury.

The news broke via the UFC on FOX Sports 1 Twitter account.

Although Alves has been pulled from the fight with Brown, “The Immortal” will not get an easy fill-in fight. Mike “Quicksand” Pyle has stepped up and taken the fight with Brown on August 17th.

Pyle (25-8-1) will step into the fight riding a four fight winning streak inside the UFC, most recently coming off of a controversial decision victory over Rick Story at UFC 160. Pyle has won seven of his last eight fights overall and a win over Matt Brown on August 17th in Boston could place him into welterweight contention talks. However, he’ll have his hands full with the surging Matt Brown.

Brown (17-11) has been on a vicious tear, popping off five straight victories, with four of those five wins coming by way of knockout. He’ll be coming off of an impressive TKO victory over highly regarded prospect, Jordan Mein, in April at UFC on FOX 7. That fight won him “Fight of the Night” honors and he’ll look to put on a similar performance in August against Pyle.

This fight will carry heavy implications for the UFC welterweight division and will likely be one of the most entertaining and anticipated fights on the card.
