Ultimate Insider host Jon Anik sat down with the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones and heated rival and former training partner Rashad Evans recently, and it didn’t take long for sparks to fly between the two competitors, particularly in regard to Evans’ exit from trainer Greg Jackson’s New Mexico-based training camp.

Jones: [Greg] spoke so highly of Rashad. He really did everything he could do to keep some type of rapport.

Evans: He did everything? But he didn’t even give me a call and talk to me. Everything? He did everything! But he couldn’t even do the simplest thing. He couldn’t even pick up the phone to say “Hey, let’s talk about this.”

Jones: On the other hand, you have Rashad who is bashing the program, the history…

Evans: The history? I made that history! What are you talking about? I helped make that history. You came into it. Don’t talk about the history when you have no roots in the history. I helped make Greg Jackson. I helped make him the reason why you even wanted to come there and train.

Jones: That team is my team now.

The two men discussed strategies and how both of them training under Jackson has given them insight into each other’s game plans.

Jones: I’ll tell you to your face. Rashad’s way of winning this fight is his huge right hand, or trying to get me down round after round. I know the ways that I could lose this fight. I’m not naïve to my weaknesses. But at the same time, I’m a wrestler too… And I have way more technique on my feet… I know the way I can lose, and I’m training for that.

Evans: It’s such a different experience when you’re in there with me. When you’re in there with me, I get you to skip to my Lou. Skip to my Lou! You’re gonna do exactly what I want you to do, and that’s just the bottom line… The sooner you come to realize it, the more comfortable you’ll be with the results.

Jones: I feel like I’m just getting started. That’s the thing. And you’re at the end. Because I said so. And I’m gonna prove that you are. Call that “cocky.”

The two rivals will face off at UFC 145: Jones vs. Evans on April 21 in Atlanta, Georgia.
