The Official PPV Numbers Are in For “May/Pac” and They’re Ridiculous

The projections are predictions are done; Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao have broken pay-per-view buy-rate records with their “fight of the decade” earlier this month.

4.4 million pay-per-view telecasts were purchased in the United States of America alone which generated over $400 million, ESPN‘s Dan Rafael reports.

Manny Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum, chimed in and told ESPN that it would break previous records. “I think it was something we knew we would beat the prior record, but we didn’t have any reasonable expectation that it would exceed it by as much as it did,” Top Rank chairman Bob Arum stated. “We were confident it would go over 3 million (PPV buys), maybe do 3.5 million on the outside. But it just caught fire.”
