UFC officials announced today that Japanese superstar Tatsuya Kawajiri will fight fellow UFC newcomer Sean Soriano at January’s UFC Fight Night 34.
Kawajiri (32-7) has been slated for the January 4th card for some time, but his original opponent Hacran Dias was forced out of the bout. Now, the Japanese phenom will be making his UFC debut against another promotional newcomer, undefeated featherweight fighter Sean Soriano (8-0).
Soriano, fighting out of the Blackzilian camp in Florida, has fought his way through the regional circuit; most recently fighting for the Championship Fighting Alliance. Of his 8 fights, Soriano has finished half inside the first round.
Tatsuya Kawajiri has seen immense success throughout his long career in Japan. He has fought in Shooto, Pride, Dream and K-1. He fought once in Strikeforce in 2011, where he challenged then-lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez’s belt, but he lost the fight in a first-round TKO. Since that loss, Kawajiri has won five straight.
UFC Fight Night 34 takes place January 4 at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Cetnre in Singapore.Tags: Gilbert Melendez, Hacran Dias, mma, MMA NEWS, sean soriano, tatsuya kawajiri, ufc, UFC Fight Night 34, ufc news, ufc singapore
