Swanson Feels That Ignoring The Negativity Lead to His Success

Cub Swanson has been through it all: a troubled past, a cavalcade of haters and doubters, even a broken face, but now it looks like it is finally Cub’s time. With a 6-1 record in the octagon (21-5 overall), Swanson is riding a 6-fight win streak straight to a possible title shot. His last win over Jeremy Stephens at UFC Fight Night 44 earlier this month may have catapulted him into the path of the winner of Aldo vs. Mendes.

With Swanson being at the highest point of his career, obviously there may be a few naysayers whose noses he would love to rub in his fresh success. Instead, he takes it all in stride and chalks it up to being just another part of the fight.

“People along the way said certain things and didn’t mean it, but (didn’t know) how rude it was or how blunt or how messed up it was,” he told MMAjunkie Radio. “I’m glad I stuck with it. I was just talking to my stepmom about that today about never letting it get to me and sticking with it, and look where I’m at now.”

Right now, Swanson is currently waiting for his next opportunity, and while the winner of Aldo vs. Mendes seems most likely, he does have the option of also going against former Featherweight champion Frankie Edgar, who is just coming off of a victory over BJ Penn at the TUF Finale in the beginning of July.

Either fight is a tremendous chance to show what he’s made of and if Cub continues on the streak he’s on, he’ll have more and more success to pack in front of a wall of doubt.
