Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva were originally scheduled to fight under the UFC banner earlier this year, however after Wanderlei Silva evaded NSAC drug-testing officials, he was put on the sidelines, and Chael Sonnen was paired with Vitor Belfort.
Leading up to Sonnen and Vitor’s fight at UFC 175, Sonnen failed a pair of drug tests, and subsequently retired from MMA competition.
After his retirement, Sonnen competed in Metamoris against Andre Galvao, where he was submitted.
Now Sonnen has revealed to Bloody Elbow that Metamoris has extended an invitation to Wanderlei to compete in a grappling match against Sonnen.
I think it could happen. I know that the invitation has been extended to him, and I know we’re just waiting to hear back from him. Metamoris was a lot of fun. Everybody watches it and it’s one of those deals that MMA fans, wrestling fans and jiu-jitsu fans all come together for. But, yes, the offer has been put to him and it’s completely up to Wanderlei at this point.
