The biggest UFC event of the year is almost upon us and the excitement is becoming palpable. The year-ending Middleweight rematch between Anderson Silva and current Champion Chris Weidman, as well as the co-main event title defense for women’s Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate has definitely been the most anticipated and hyped event of the season. Now, the numbers are starting to prove it. UFC 168 was officially sold out on Thursday, according to UFC President Dana White.
“We’re so sold out on this fight, it’s insane,” said White following the UFC 168 pre-fight press conference at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. “There are some singles left out there.”
This fight is currently the second largest US gate in UFC history, coming in at an approximate $6.3 million dollars. The largest gate in the organizations history overall was UFC 129 on April 30, 2011 in Toronto, Canada featuring Georges St. Pierre versus Jake Shields. That match brought in $12,075,000. The largest United States gate was UFC 148, Silva versus Sonnen II, which also took place at the MGM Grand Garden Area in Las Vegas. That fight brought in $6,901,655 in gate receipts.
