Smolka talks emotional rollercoaster leading up to headlining bout

Yesterday it was revealed that Joseph Duffy would be unable to fight Dustin Poirier in the main event of ‘UFC Fight Night: Dublin’ on Saturday due to a concussion sustained in training. Dustin Poirier was offered Norman Parke as a replacement opponent, however Poirier declined. In addition, interim UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor offered to fight Poirier again on short notice.

The UFC then decided to promote the co-main event bout between Paddy Holohan and Hawaii’s very own Louis Smolka to the main event.

Following that announcement, the 24 year-old Hawaiian spoke to MMAJunkie to discuss the emotional rollercoaster he’s been on this fight week.

“It’s been an emotionally rollercoaster. It’s typical fight week, right? A lot of changes happening, people getting injured, whatever – whatever the case may be I’m just ready to go out there and do my job.”

“It’s still the same approach, I’m still the same guy and we’re going to do the exact same thing, but it is nice to be the main event; it’s pretty cool.”
