Single Injury Forces Major Shuffle For Five Top Ranked UFC Lightweights

By BJPENN.COM News - July 12, 2014

Several top UFC lightweight fighters had to rearrange their schedules following a single injury withdrawal from, Blackzilian Fighter Michael Johnson.

Johnson was originally scheduled to fight Josh Thomson (pictured) on the UFC on FOX 12 fight card, but due to his injury, the top ranked Thomson was left without an opponent.

Coming in on short-notice  is Bobby Green, a rising contender on a seven-fight win streak between his Strikeforce and UFC careers. Green was originally scheduled to face Abel Trujillo at UFC Fight Night 47, but jumped at the opportunity to face the top 5 ranked Thomson.

With Trujillo left behind the UFC has brought in Ultimate Fighter winner Ross Pearson as a replacement for the bumped up Green. The two will fight on the UFC Fight night 47 main card in Bangor, Maine.

Thomson vs. Green is set to take place on July 26 from San Jose, California.

The UFC Fight night 47 event with Pearson vs. Trujillo takes place on August 16th.

Michael Johnson’s injury status is currently unknown, as is his expected time for recovery.
