Scott Jorgensen drops to flyweight, faces Ian McCall at UFC on FOX 9

By Chris Taylor - September 18, 2013

Former UFC/WEC bantamweight title challenger, Scott “Young Guns” Jorgensen (14-7 MMA, 3-3 UFC), has decided to make the drop to Flyweight and will be welcomed to the division by Ian “Uncle Creepy” McCall (12-4-1 MMA, 1-2-1 UFC) this December at the UFC on FOX 9 event in Sacramento, California. UFC officials announced the match-up on Tuesday afternoon.

Jorgensen was last seen in action at “The Ultimate Fighter Season 17 Finale,” where he squared off with perennial contender Urijah Faber in the evenings main event. Unfortunately for “Scotty-J” fans, Faber was able to submit Jorgensen in the fourth-round via rear-naked choke.

The loss served as Jorgensen’s third in his past four octagon appearances, as he had suffered defeats to Eddie Wineland and current interim-champ Renan Barao in previous action. Prior to the skid, Jorgensen had defeated Jeff Curran and Ken Stone in his first two octagon appearances.

Meanwhile, longtime flyweight contender Ian McCall is coming off his first win under the Zuffa banner. “Uncle Creepy” scored a unanimous-decision victory over Iliarde Santos at August’s UFC 163 event in Brazil. The win also earned McCall the evenings “Fight of the Night” bonus. Prior to that, McCall suffered losses to Joseph Benavidez and current flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson.

UFC on FOX 9 goes down December 14 live from the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California. The event is headlined by a lightweight title fight between current champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis and challenger Josh Thomson.
