As always, the rumor mill within the UFC is swirling. This time word of a new opponent for Ryan Jimmo for his bout at “The Ultimate Fighter” Nations Finale on April 6th has surfaced.
Jimmo was originally set to fight Steve Bosse, but he’s been side lined due to injury. According to Joe Ferraro of Sportnet, who took to Twitter, the UFC may be looking to long time MMA veteran and Elite Performance Gym trainer Sean O’Connell.
O’Connell at 30 years old doesn’t have the greatest list of competition in his resume, but at 15-4 going into this bout he is surely a competent opponent for Jimmo. And though O’Connell is a rather unimpressive fighter he is still a finisher and dangerous in his own right.
Fans may remember O’Connell from his time on Season 8 of “The Ultimate Fighter” in which he lost to Shane Primm. Since that time O’Connell has racked up five stoppage victories under his belt, and has been aiding Jeremy Horn in running his gym in Utah.
Jimmo and O’Connell match up for an interesting bout stylistically as Jimmo is an explosive fighter and a bit of a grinder and O’Connell is a skilled grappler with three submissions in his win column. And although O’Connell is a bit of a reckless striker he still has 7 knockouts to his credit.
Nothing has been made official just yet, but with the event right around the corner it’s just a matter of time, and BJPenn.com will be here to bring you the scoop!ryan jimmo, Sean O'Connell, Steve Bosse, Tuf Nations finale
