Roy Nelson Admits To Considering TRT Use

“Big Country” isn’t exactly the type that you would take too seriously. With his giant beard and Buddha belly Roy Nelson has always been kind of the big kid in the heavyweight division. However, we must keep in mind that Roy is no kid, in fact he’s a very skilled fighter who has been in the game for some time now.

Recently, Roy applied for the open position of executive director at the Nevada Athletic Commission to fill the vacancy left by Keith Kizer after his abrupt resignation.

This came as a joke to UFC President Dana White who called Nelson a “fucking idiot” who “wouldn’t get a job if he applied at Kinko’s”.

Not surprising harsh words from Dana.

However, this hasn’t detoured Nelson who took some time to sit with Ariel Helwani and The MMA Hour and discuss just how serious he is about taking the open spot on the NSAC.

“Yeah, I’m always interested in furthering our sport,” Nelson stated. “Like, I would love to be a correspondent newsperson, somebody who informs the fans a little bit more and able to bring a little more closure to our sport where it’s more of a black and white as opposed to the gray area.”

Not surprisingly, Nelson stated that if he were chosen for the job one of his first acts as executive director would be to focus on the botched scoring system of MMA as it is now.

With talks of Nelson heading the NSAC the topic of TRT (testosterone replacement therapy) was initiated into the conversation. And though Nelson, who is within close age range of other fighters who are trying TRT, has never tried TRT he stated that he is not entirely opposed to the idea.

“Always considering it,” he said. “Always considering what the commission gives you, but no…for the most part it is what it is.”

All the talk about the NSAC aside, Nelson has to focus on his next big venture. A bout with Rodrigo Nogueira this April 11 in Abu Dhabi for UFC Fight Night 39. Nelson’s last bout was a decision loss to Daniel Cormier at UFC 166. Before that another unanimous decision loss to Stipe Miocic at UFC 161. If Nelson is defeated by Big Nog this will make for three consecutive losses. Something dreaded by all fighters on the UFC roster, Nelson included.

So, what do you think Penn Nation? Does Nelson have what it takes to be the next executive director for the NSAC? Would it be a good idea for Roy to start using TRT? Will he be able to halt his loosing streak and take out Big Nog? Let us know what you think!
