Rosi Sexton and Joe Rogan bump heads (and brains) on Twitter

At UFC 166, Cain Velasquez put on an MMA clinic, battering, bruising and completely dominating former champ Junior dos Santos, on his way to a fifth round TKO victory.

It was a fight which was so violent, so vicious, that dos Santos believed the fifth round TKO had actually transpired in the second round… leading his camp to believe that “JDS” was going through the motions for the remaining two and half rounds on “autopilot” – prior to giving a post-fight interview that – much like his memory of the brutal beating that preceded it – he cannot recall.

But there may be a positive for JDS to take out of this loss: this fight just might be the catalyst for the sport’s governing bodies to begin the process of looking differently at when – and how – fights are stopped in the future. At the very least, it’s sure to spark a lot of healthy debate about the subject. Especially if we were to see another violent, one-sided fight, going just a little too long for our collective tastes…

… Enter Rosi Sexton.

Rosi was the victim of a fairly lopsided drumming at UFN 30, courtesy of Jessica Andrade. And Joe Rogan was of the opinion that – much like the JDS / Cain war just days prior – the fight should have been stopped. This led to a bit of a back-and-forth between the female fighter and MMA commentator, via Twitter:

Hey @RosiSexton, I have to ask: would you have been furious at your corner had they stopped the fight?

Rosi Sexton ‏@RosiSexton
my corner know me better than anyone and they made the right decision.

So @RosiSexton is “too tough for her own good” but Sanchez/Melendez is “fight of the century”? Be consistent please, Joe Rogan. #mma #UFC

Rosi Sexton ‏@RosiSexton
•People should watch fights without the commentary if they want to see what’s actually going on.
•Criticise me all you like, but don’t ever criticise my corner for treating me the same as any other fighter, regardless of gender.

@RosiSexton  regardless of gender, you’re too tough for your own good

Rosi Sexton ‏@RosiSexton
Maybe let me be the judge of that.

Rosi Sexton ‏@RosiSexton
•48 hours post fight – I have 2 black eyes, otherwise I’m 100% fine.
•You could have given me an IQ test as I stepped out of the cage, and I’d still have scored higher than Joe Rogan 😉

Joe Rogan ‏@joerogan
I agree 🙂

Rosi Sexton ‏@RosiSexton
ha ha! Thanks for being a good sport. Disagreed with your comments about the fight, but plenty of respect for what you do. 🙂

Joe Rogan ‏@joerogan
I’ve got mad respect for you, Rosi. Both for your skills and your heart. My commentary was purely out of concern.

Rosi Sexton ‏@RosiSexton
I appreciate the intention. I was ok though; and although I look like a panda, I’m fine now. Thanks for the tweet!

@joerogan I think you were taking way too much damage in that fight.

Rosi Sexton ‏@RosiSexton
I was there. I’m fine.

Rosi Sexton ‏@RosiSexton
•Blimey. I didn’t realise there were so many people on twitter missing a sense of humour. Maybe check under the bed & behind the sofa.
•Any more @joerogan fans who’d like to lynch me? May as well all give me a good kicking while I’m down. Only until the referee stops it, mind

Joe Rogan ‏@joerogan
Please, anyone tweeting @RosiSexton negatively re: me, I would appreciate it if you didn’t. She was cracking a joke, and she’s very cool.

Rosi Sexton ‏@RosiSexton
phew, thanks! 😉

Joe Rogan ‏@joerogan
It would do the world a lot of good if we all made a habit out of trying really hard to not be unnecessarily upset at things. #FreakParty

Win _Butler ‏@WinTenoch83
@RosiSexton maybe you were joking but there wasn’t a need to insult joe. Nobody knows who you are or cares #cunt

Rosi Sexton ‏@RosiSexton
@WinTenoch83 you seem to have failed to grasp what a “joke” is. Congratulations for being even dumber than I believed possible.

So, MMA fans: what are your opinions? Do you feel that the fight should have been stopped? If so, why? And do you believe the MMA governing bodies need to take a look at how one-sided fights are handled? Or are you content with the way things are now? Let’s hear it.
