Ronda Rousey ‘Concerned’ About UFC 170 PPV Buys

Ronda Rousey is concerned.
Sure, she’s the biggest thing to hit the UFC since Kimbo Slice’d bread.  Sure, the fans love to love her, or love to hate her. But too much of a good thing isn’t always a good thing.
I get concerned,” Rousey said during the open workouts for UFC 170, which will take place this Saturday night in Las Vegas, Nevada. “I do have my concerns about this pay-per-view (PPV). It’s a really quick turnaround, which means that I didn’t really give people a chance to miss me. It’s coming after two huge PPVs, the Super Bowl card and the New Year’s [Eve] card. And when I’m the headliner, all the pressure really does fall on me to deliver.”
Boy does it ever.
You see, at one point in time, Ronda had a co-main event to fall back on: Rashad Evans taking on the new-to-light heavyweight Daniel “it’s alright to cry” Cormier. But once Rashad had to pull out due to a knee injury, the UFC saw fit to replace him with a coffee shop barista. A coffee shop barista that will have 9 days to prepare for a fight with an undefeated UFC powerhouse like Cormier. Although, if you believe the UFC’s marketing department, you would think that Cummins is some kind of long-lost juggernaut villain from Cormier’s past, and that Cormier is ready to exact his terrible revenge on the man who once – gasp – made him emotionally upset about losing the imaginary Olympics.
If I were Ronda, I would be worried too. Sure, the women’s bantamweight champion squaring off against fellow Olympic medalist Sara McMann is sure to pull in viewers. And watching Cormier move down to the light heavyweight division is going to be interesting to watch, no matter who he’s facing. But if the UFC continues to stress out their number one PPV draw with quick turnarounds and almost-unknown co-main event fighters (which will truly tell us if she’s as big of a draw as the UFC thinks), one of these times she’s going to take a trip to Hollywood and never come back.
Maybe Batroc the Leaper could use an evil henchman.
