Currently undefeated UFC women’s bantamweight champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey is an undeniable powerhouse in the sport of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) right now. Especially when it comes to the newly vastly growing women’s division.
However, as of late we are seeing Ronda take a turn toward the silver screen. Much like another female fighter that became a household name in Gina Carano. With Rousey being booked in such big box office roles in films such as The Expendables 3 and the newest installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise, it leaves fans questioning where her dedication truly lies.
Rousey was quick to reassure fans, along with UFC President Dana White and the company, at a media scrum or UFC 170 that she doesn’t plan on going anywhere just yet.
“Well, I’m a fighter, I enjoy fighting,” Rousey said. “I was doing judo for a decade and a half for pretty much no money. If money was what was really important for me, I might be a stockbroker right now. I just want to have enough money to be able to enjoy what I enjoy for a living. Right now the main thing I enjoy is fighting.”
Ronda is set to face off against a fellow Olympian in Sara McMann, who has also gone undefeated since making the transition to MMA, at UFC 170 which takes place in Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Event Center on Saturday, February 22, 2014.
The champ makes it clear where her head is at. Which comes as no surprise to those who are familiar with the almost obsessively dedicated Rousey. And it’s not on making movies.
“I need to focus on the fight,” Rousey said. “I really feel my life is on every single time I’m out there. Anything that would distract me from that, no matter how cool and amazing it is, I just can’t afford to give it that much of my attention right now.”
