Australian rising star, Jake Matthews, who had a brief stint on The Ultimate Fighter, has gone 2-0 since his time on the show, submitting both Dashon Johnson, and Vagner Rocha. The wins extended Matthews unbeaten streak to 8, leaving the 20-year old undefeated in his professional career.

What’s even more impressive however, is that Matthews trained in a shed in his backyard up until recently, with his 17 year old brother as his main sparring partner.

Recently, Matthews opened his own gym, and has stepped up his training.

He spoke on The MMA Hour:

“It stepped up a bit now. I’ve got my own gym, a nice facility and good sparring partners. So people can expect another step up in my level again.”

With the UFC eyeing a potential card in Melbourne, Matthews would love to fight on the first ever “UFC Fight Night Melbourne” card if the UFC makes the trip.

“I will be on that card, absolutely. I’m gonna do everything in my power to get on it. I want to be the Melbourne guy on it. I want to be the draw card that everyone wants to come and see. That’s going to come with winning fights before that.”

“I believe they would sell it out and it would sell out fast,”
