Matt “Deep Waters” Riddle is the latest to join the free agent list after failing his second drug test in only seven months. Shortly after his split decision victory over Che Mills at UFC on Fuel TV 7, blood test results registered positive for marijuana and the win was overturned into a no contest. Riddle, a medical marijuana patient, has not hesitated to voice his opinion on the subject claiming he was fired for simply taking his medicine. Unfortunately for the likes of Nick Diaz and Matt Riddle, UFC officials don’t share the same views toward cannabis use. Riddle was released from the organization last Tuesday, and seems to have no intentions of returning any time soon.
In fact, he would be content if never invited back.
“Honestly, I would be fine with that,” Riddle admitted. “I’ve already done a decent amount of damage in the UFC, you know, with fighting and having fun there, making a good amount of money. I’m 27, just hitting my stride.”
Riddle does not see the UFC in his future even after some time spent away from the promotion.
“What I see happening is, a year or two from now the UFC calls me back after I’ve won probably like five or six fights, hopefully. And I’ll probably, at the time, say, ‘No.’ Because I really don’t like the direction they’re taking the company. They’re firing high-level talent so they can have lower level talent just scrap, and they’d rather have a brawl than a good technical fight. I think that’s going to be their downfall, because the fans are getting more educated. They’re getting smarter, and they don’t want to just see a slugfest and two retarded guys with brain damage bleeding everywhere.
It’s hard to believe that the 27-year-old is so opposed to returning to the biggest promotion in the sport, but as of now Riddle remains an Ex-UFC athlete.Tags: Fired, Matt Riddle, mma, MMA NEWS, ufc, ufc cuts, ufc news, ufc on fuel tv 7
