UFC 168, which took place Dec. 28, 2013 in Las Vegas, Nev. did a live gate of $6,238,792.50, which is the second best in the promotion’s history.
The people in attendance filled the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
In the main event, Chris Weidman looked to defend his title against one of the all-time-greats in the sport, Anderson Silva. In their first battle, Silva was knocked unconscious by a Weidman left hook. The rematch ended in an unfortunate circumstance, as Silva broke his leg while Weidman checked an inside leg kick.
The co-main event was another rematch; this time between two bitter rivals– Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate. The rematch went similarly to their original match, with Rousey again winning by armbar and securing her spot as the UFC women’s bantamweight champion.
Two heavyweights slugged it out in the feature bout, as Travis Browne extended his winning streak to three with a knockout over MMA legend Josh Barnett. With that knockout, Browne earned his third straight knockout of the night award.
With the excitement that was built around UFC 168, it is understandable that the UFC generated such an impressive gate.
