Rashad Evans Says Daniel Cormier Might Be Next Opponent

Long has the MMA community clamored for former Olympian and Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix champion Daniel Cormier to drop from heavyweight to light heavyweight.

The wait may finally be over, for it seems that former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans could be the man to introduce Cormier to the division. Evans told “UFC Tonight” that he has heard Cormier could be his next opponent, but no date was discussed.

Many wonder whether Cormier, who had to pull out of the 2008 Beijing Olympics due to kidney damage, could make the cut to 205 pounds. Cormier has stated he has changed his lifestyle and diet since then, and thinks he can make the cut.

Evans agrees that Cormier can make the cut, and said “I think he can diet down, and I think he’s a different athlete than he was when he was wrestling for the Olympics. I think he’s a little bit more disciplined now.”

No official wording has come from the UFC or Cormier stating that this is an official matchup, but it would surely be a tough test for both men.

Evans is coming off of a first round TKO victory over Chael Sonnen.
