PAYCUT! Mousasi Latest Fighter To Speak Out Against Reebok Deal

By Chris Taylor - May 21, 2015

Gegard Mousasi WINS
Former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion and current UFC middleweight contender Gegard Mousasi is the latest fighter to speak out against the UFC’s Reebok sponsorship deal.

“The Dreamcatcher” recently sat down with BloodyElbow where he stated that he stands to make a lot less money due to the new arrangement, his words:

“Well, I’m going to make a lot less. Other than that, I can’t say much about it,” Mousasi said. “I’ll be making 4 or 5 times less, it’s a big difference”

The UFC has already changed the original tiering based on it’s rankings system, and Mousasi is hoping that more changes may follow:

“I don’t know, maybe they are going to change something still. I don’t know, I hope so.”

If no changes occur, Gegard is at least fortunate enough to be one of the few fighters who have solid cash flow from outside of his MMA career:

“Well I have other incomes. I have my buildings that I am renting. I have other incomes apart from my fighting, so this is just a bonus, fighting,” he states. “Yes, it’s definitely (important to invest your fight purses into other things). With fighting, it’s difficult to do something else because we’ve been doing this for a long time. You’re not going to be a doctor suddenly.”
