UFC Fight Night 50 will bring fight fans to the Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Ledyard, Connecticut on September 5th, and with this event will come two hard-hitting heavyweight bouts: Allistair Overeem vs. Ben Rothwell and Matt Mitrione vs. Derrick Lewis.
Overeem most recently saw a desicion victory at UFC 169 against Frank Mir after two back-to-back losses to Antonio Silva and Travis Browne.
Big Ben Rothwell has has been having a worse time, with a 4-3 record since his arrival in the UFC. While he is an exciting fighter, he has yet to be able to connect two exciting, winning fights together. His last victory came via TKO against Brandon Vera almost a year ago at UFC 164.
Matt Mitrione (7-3) is coming off of a victory from last January against Shawn Jordan, and was actually scheduled to fight at last weekend’s UFC 175 against Stefan Struve, but Struve’s fainting episode cancelled the bout a few fights before they were set to meet up.
Lewis is 2-0 in the UFC, his last fight being at the TUF 19 finale this weekend. His first fight was in April at UFC on Fox 11 in Orlando, where he brought a first-round stoppage to Jack May.
