On This Day: Alistair Overeem makes UFC debut, retires Lesnar

December 30, 2015 6:10 pm by Evan Bell

On this day 4 years ago the highly touted prospect Alistair Overeem made his UFC debut against Brock Lesnar.

Overeem’s debut was in fact an emphatic one, in the very first round he finished former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar with a body kick that ultimately resulted in Lesnar retiring from MMA.

The fight was the first for Lesnar since losing the UFC heavyweight championship to Cain Velasquez over a year prior to the bout with Overeem.
