UFC officials have added a lightweight bout to their July 7 fight card in Las Vegas. The bout will put Rafaello Oliveira opposite Yoislandy Izquierdo in preliminary card action.
The July 7 event has been dubbed “UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen II” and will feature a middleweight title fight (rematch) between champion Anderson Silva and challenger Chael Sonnen set to air live on pay-per-view.
Oliveira is one of those fighters who is too good for the regional circuit but has fallen short inside the UFC. After initially signing with the promotion back in 2010, he was forced back onto the regional circuit where he put together a 4-0 streak to get a second chance inside the Octagon.
Now on his second stint in the UFC he has posted back-to-back defeats against Yves Edwards and Gleison Tibau. The most recent string of losses brings his overall UFC record to 1-4 and he likely fights for his job in this latest booking.
Izquierdo entered the UFC with an unblemished professional record however he suffered his first career defeat against Madadi at UFC on FUEL TV 2. The Florida-based Cuban will look to get back on the winning track and prove he belongs in the world’s best Mixed Martial Arts Promotion.
The latest UFC 148 roster looks as follows:
