According to reports out of Brazil, Luiz de Franca (pictured), a 3-0 welterweight from Kimura Nova Uniao team, was murdered inside a gym on Monday morning in Natal, Brazil. De Franca, who also worked as a teacher at the Alta Performance gym in Natal, was shot several times by a man, believed to be, an officer of the law.
The main suspect in the murder, according to the Brazilian report, is a police lieutenant who recently trained at the victims gym before being removed from the team because “he was too violent.”
De Franca started his MMA career as an amateur in early 2012 at the Tuff-N-Uff cage and was training with Wanderlei Silva in Las Vegas. He eventually went on to go undefeated in three-pro fights before his untimely death.
Silva expressed his condolences for the loss through his Facebook page. Having trained the young fighter for a year, Silva described the victim as a ‘Good kid’ who just ‘got himself in trouble.’
The local authorities reported that the crime was caught on tape, but at the time of this report, they have yet to divulge any additional details.
