Leonardo Santos’ and Norman Parke’s bout came to a majority draw at UFC Fight Night 38, earlier this week. The event took place at Ginasiao Nelio Dias in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. Santos and Parke headlined the card that aired on FOX Sports 1.
The fight could have easily gone to Parke if it wasn’t for referee Wernei Cardoso taking a point away, without an initial warning, for Parke grabbing Santos’ shorts while against the cage.
Two of the judges scored the bout 28-28. The third was in favor of Santos with 29-27. However, without the point deduction in the second round, which could easily be considered as unwarranted, Parke would have taken a split decision victory.
Parke, however, is chocking it up as a loss and has his sights set forward.
In fact, he’s not only looking forward but higher up on the food chain as well. With the lack luster fight in his rear view, he has hopes that the UFC will put him up against someone who will press the action and force him to fight.
“I want someone who’s going to come at me, test me, push me, keep me on the back foot and make a good fight for the fans,” Parke stated in a recent interview with MMAjunkie. “I’m hoping they give me… Joe Lauzon, maybe Michael Johnson. There are loads of great guys.”
Parke seems to be dead set on proving that he, not only belongs in the UFC, but has what it takes to face the bigger dogs in the yard.
Only time will tell.
