No New Women’s Divisions Anytime Soon for the UFC, Says Dana White

| After rumors started swirling that the UFC was in the process of looking to expand it’s women’s divisions within the organization by adding weight classes UFC President Dana White smashed those talks following last weekend’s UFC on FOX 8 event in Seattle, Washington.

The event featured two very exciting female bouts from its solitary bantamweight division and the company is still yet to host a boring WMMA fight, in my opinion.

Each female bout that has been featured in the UFC has been stellar in every sense of the word and it would make sense if the company started looking to expand the female divisions…but, on the other hand, it also makes sense not to rush the expansion.

Dana White talked with media members following last Saturday’s event (July 27th) about why the UFC is sticking with its lonely female bantamweight division at this point in time.

We’re still building up this division and getting people to know who these girls are,” he said. “We’ve got to see how this one works for a couple years before we (add new divisions).”

When these words are coming from the man that literally took a dying brand in the UFC and made it the fastest growing promotionon the planet, we have to assume that he knows what he’s doing when it comes to building up names and promoting fights. If he says they need to wait, we have to thoroughly trust his judgments and assume that when the timing is right the UFC will adopt more female divisions.

But for now, we’ll continue to be treated to the 135 pound weight class and really get to know the fighters and names that compete for the UFC’s female bantamweight division.

I don’t know about you but I’m excited to see what the women bring to the table next. On deck for the UFC women is a scrap between #9 ranked contender Sheila Gaff vs. #7 ranked contender Amanda Nunes this weekend (August 3rd) at UFC 163. This should be a good one as well.
