Fan favorite Roy Nelson has re-signed with the UFC and has also inked a blockbuster fight.
The Houston Chronicle first reported, and then it was later confirmed by the UFC, that Nelson will face fellow top-10 heavyweight Daniel Cormier in the co-main event of UFC 166.
Cormier is 12-0 and pushed hard for the fight through social media. Nelson is 19-8 is coming off a loss to Stipe Miocic, a fight he took on short notice for UFC 161. At the time, it was the last fight on his UFC contract.
Cormier has toyed with the idea of dropping to light heavyweight. His AKA teammate, Cain Velasquez is the division’s current champion.
UFC 166 will be held on Oct. 19 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. Velasquez will face No. 1 contender Junior dos Santos in the main event.Tags: Daniel Comier, Roy Nelson, UFC 166
