Nate Diaz steps out of his brother’s shadow, and into the main event of UFC on FOX 5 | UFC NEWS

Nick Diaz has been one of the top MMA fighters in his weight class for a long time, defeating some of the best welterweights in the world. No one supported and believed in Nick more than his younger brother Nate when he fought and beat guys like Kj Noons, Paul Daley, Frank Shamrock, and the legend Bj Penn. This time the roles are reversed and Nick is the supporter while Nate is preparing for the biggest fight of his life. It’s Nick, not Nate that will be standing in the corner, coaching on his brother in a title fight this time, and loving every second of it.

Headlining one of the most stacked UFC cards of the year at UFC on FOX: 5 are the lightweight champion Benson Henderson and number one contender Nate Diaz. Nate Diaz is coming off of three very impressive wins and almost looked unbeatable against a very tough Jim Miller. Nate Diaz has improved at a rapid rate and just keeps getting better every time he steps in the octagon. Since dropping back to lightweight, two of the fights earned Nate “submission of the night” awards and the other a “fight of the night” award.

The Diaz brothers are known for their ability to get into the head of their opponents but it’s their ability in the octagon that has really made them fan favorites amongst MMA hardcore and casual fans alike. Nate has really stepped out of the shadow of his brother and been building his fan base by hyping his fights with endless trash talk of his opponents. But unlike many of the guys who like to talk a lot before their fight, if Nate says he’s going to go in there and kick you’re ass, then that’s what he’s going to do.

Nate Diaz is a fighter fans want to watch fight, never shying away from a war, and always putting on exciting fights. Nate is facing his toughest opponent to date in Benson Henderson, he’s a smart fighter, has great speed, great hands, and a great ground game. There is no doubt that Benson Henderson will need to bring his “A” game though because Nate is going to come in and push the pace and look to finish the champ. All of Henderson’s UFC fights have gone to decision and Nate has finished 9 of his 16 UFC opponents.

Clearly ready for his shot at UFC gold, and to claim his spot at the top of one of the deepest divisions in the UFC, the young warrior from Stockton, California has prepared his whole life for Saturday night. Whether it was Nate standing next to his brother in a street fight growing up, or Nate standing behind Nick as a corner man for one of his Strikeforce title fights, these two brothers have always had each others back. This time though, it’s Nate Diaz standing in the spotlight, out of his brother’s shadow, and into the main event.
