Continuing with the popularity of promoting bouts in the lower weight classes continues as Darrel Montague (13-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) faces off in a flyweight battle with Will Campuzano (13-5 MMA, 0-3 UFC) at UFC 171 in March, UFC officials announced today.
UFC 171 is set to air on pay-per-view in March following the preliminary bouts that air on FOX Sports 1. The event takes place March 15 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX.
It is not yet set on where exactly the flyweight bout between Montague and Campuzano will be on the line up.
Montague is ranked No. 10 on BJPenn.com’s rankings. He was contracted by the UFC after a four fight win streak. However, his debut performance at UFC 166 was cut short by John Dodson who knocked out Montague in the first round. Before coming to the UFC Montague was 10-1, his only loss to Ian McCall for the TPF championship.
Campuzano has already fought many times under the Zuffa banner as a former UFC and WEC bantamweight. After dropping to flyweight and going on a five fight winning streak he has regained his position on the UFC roster. However, he recently suffered a unanimous decision loss to Sergio Pettis at UFC 167. He is now 0-3 in the UFC and is hoping for a win as to not be dropped by the promotion yet again.
