Dream officials have announced two additions to its annual New Year’s Eve show titled “DREAM: Fight for Japan. How are you! New Year 2011.”
Added to the ever growing night of fights are two featherweight matchups in the form of Tatsuya Kawajiri vs. Kazuyuki Miyata and for the featherweight title we have champ, Hiroyuki Takaya vs. Takeshi Inoue.
“DREAM: Fight for Japan. How are you! New Year 2011.” is set to take place on Dec. 31 from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan and it’s expected to air on HDNet in some capacity.
Takaya won the DREAM featherweight title at last year’s “year-end event” against Bibiano Fernandes. Currently riding a respectable 4-1 record in his last five outings, his lone defeat came way of newly inked UFC fighter Robert Peralta at “Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley”.
Inoue is the former Shooto champion who has recently made his way to the DREAM promotion. Riding a three-fight win streak he hopes to regain his championship ways and take the DREAM title from Takaya this December.
In the other matchup announced today, Kawajiri will look to stay in the featherweight division and take on his next opponent in Miyata. Long considered one of the top lightweights in the world, Kawajiri recently found success in the featherweight division when he choked of Joachim Hansen at DREAM 17. He now looks to build off that success on New Year’s Eve.
Miyata will look to halt the rise of his opponent and get back on the winning track. Having recently tasted defeat at the hands of Takaya via split decision, this Olympic wrestling stand-out will have another tough test in front of him in the form of Kawajiri. His most recent loss snapped his four-fight win streak which included victories over the likes of Inoue and Uno amongst others.
