Welterweight Mile Pierce(17-6) has been forced out of his upcoming May fight due a broken hand. Pierce was set to face off in May against Demian Maia (18-6) at UFC Fight Night 42 in Brazil, but because there is no timetable set for Pierces return, Maia will be awaiting a new opponent.
Pierce, who is coming off of a loss to Rousimar Palhares in October, was previously riding a four-fight win streak, and was poised to finally make a statement against a top 10 fighter. Pierce has shown impressive domination over all of his non-ranked opponents but has yet to add a W to anyone with a ranking.
Maia is coming off of loss to Rory MacDonald back in February at UFC 170. Though he does have a career record similar to Pierce with 18-6, Maia is currently holding a 3-2 record at 170lbs since his drop to the division from welterweight in 2012.
