UFC women’s bantamweight champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey has gotten a lot of flak in her career as a mixed martial artist being viewed as somewhat of a “one trick pony” by many. Albeit she is pretty damn good at that one trick the young fighter has made it a point to shut up the critics and improve on the other skills that will soon make her a complete fighter.
We were lucky to see the fruits of her labors exhibited in her most recent title defense against Sara McMann whom Ronda TKO’d (to the prediction of her coach) with a vicious left knee to the liver in only 66 of the very first round.
Ronda’s most notable rival Miesha Tate took to Ariel Helwani’s “The MMA Hour” to discuss Ronda’s performance and how the champ is steadily improving.
“She looked great. I think the thing about Ronda is every fight she is getting better. I personally was never one to say she was a one-trick pony. I always said that was the best thing she had was her arm bar…. she’s evolving her game. She was able to showcase something else… that’s where the compliments will stop. I think she’s an incredible athlete, and she has a great skill set, and that’s all that I can say.”
No love lost between those two.
Miesha continues to be a consummate professional even after she was snubbed by Rousey while reaching out for a hand shake after her most recent loss to the champ. But that was nothing that Miesha wasn’t already expecting.
“It was just kind of what I got used to, but that was my bury the hatchet. That was my offering, she didn’t want to accept it, and that’s fine.”
Now that the madness between the two ladies has simmered down a bit Miesha is able to focus on her next challenge and hope to get a mark in the win column during her time in the UFC. However, that will be no easy task as she faces Liz Carmouche this April 19 in Orlando, Florida for UFC on FOX 11.
And though Miesha may be a few more victories away from a possible third fight with Rousey she’s focused on getting the job done with Carmouche first and foremost.
