Miesha Tate: Losing that title fight ‘shot me in the heart’

By BJPENN.COM News - September 13, 2015

Miesha Tate showed a great deal of improvement and aggression when she disposed of Jessica Eye at “UFC on FOX 16” earlier this year during a win that supposedly earned her a shot at the bantamweight championship.

However, UFC President Dana White and Ronda Rousey caught “Cupcake” off guard when it was announced that Holly Holm would be next in line to challenge “Rowdy” for the UFC Bantamweight Championship. Rousey broke the news on “Good Morning Amercia” when Tate was still asleep.

“I found out later than half the world, even, because I was still asleep, I guess, when it was announced. I woke up to about 30 texts on my phone saying, ‘Oh, I’m sorry,’ and I was like, ‘What?’” Tate explained during Invicta FC 14. “It sucked not finding out from the promotion itself, so I felt a little bit disappointed and my feelings were kind of hurt, to be honest.”

Tate wasted no time in training for the opportunity to dethrone Rousey and hit the gym as soon as her fight with Eye ended. “I was training for her already. I didn’t take any time off after my fight and it really kind of shot me in the heart. It was like, ‘Damn. That’s what I thought I was going to get, and that’s what the world thought I was going to get.’ It was a pretty heartbreaking process for me, so I’m not exactly sure what’s next.”

Holly Holm will be challenging Ronda Rousey for the championship at UFC 193 on November 15, 2015 at Melbourne, Australia in the Etihad Stadium. The Etihad Stadium can house over 50,000 fans; Do you think Rousey/Holm will sell out the venue? Will Tate earn another shot at Rousey?
