Michael Chiesa And Francisco Trinaldo Set To Square Off At UFC 173

The UFC has added another bout to its May 24th event.

Francisco Trinaldo (pictured), who last saw Octagon action only a few weeks ago at Fight Night 36, will be taking on TUF winner Michael Chiesa at UFC 173.

UFC 173 will take place on May 24th, and is headlined by UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman as he defends his belt against Vito… er, Lyoto Machida. The event emanates out of Las Vegas.

Both men will be coming off wins, as Chiesa recently earned a “Submission of the Night” victory over Colton Smith at Fight for the Troops 3 (in November), and Trinaldo squeaked out a split-decision win over Jesse Ronson at Fight Night 36 (in February).

Here’s how the event is shaping up:

Chris Weidman vs. Lyoto Machida
Chris Holdsworth vs. Kyung Ho Kang
Sam Sicilia vs. Doo Ho Choi
Jamie Varner vs. James Krause
T.J. Dillashaw vs. Takeya Mizugaki
Al Iaquinta vs. Mitch Clarke
Michael Chiesa vs. Francisco Trinaldo

This isn’t exactly a stacked card, so it will be interesting to see how many buys Chris Weidman and Lyoto Machida can pull in. While Machida is an interesting match-up for just about anyone, Vitor Belfort being pulled out of the main event is still a huge blow to this card.

We’ll see how everything shakes out, this May.
