Memorable Moments in the UFC Part 1

There have been many memorable moments in the UFC. takes a look at some of the best, and well worst moments depending on who you’re a fan of in this 3 part series.

Anderson Silva defeats former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Forrest Griffin with a pawing jab

Anderson Silva seemed unmotivated in his title defenses leading up to UFC 101 so Dana White brought in a light heavyweight fan favorite to challenge him. Granted, Forrest Griffin is a game opponent, but he was never known for having a solid chin despite being one of the biggest light heavyweights, in terms of fight day weight, of all time.

In the first round Silva seemed to be playing with his prey and even offered to help him up once after he knocked him to the canvas. The reason this moment was memorable is that Griffin looked like a slow amateur. Silva on the other hand looked like Neo in the Matrix dodging everything Forrest threw with ease. The champion had his hands down and after dodging several strikes with playful head bobs – he threw a pawing jab that sent Griffin to the canvas and single-handedly removed some of the appeal of the first Ultimate Fighter reality show winner. Forrest famously ran from the ring before the decision was announced making it a double whammy in terms of being memorable.

Cain Velasquez defeats Junior Dos Santos

After getting pummeled embarrassingly on the first UFC on FOX program, then Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez went back to the drawing board, dreaming of getting his revenge on Junior Dos Santos. Cain destroyed Bigfoot Silva, then brutalized Junior Dos Santos for five solid rounds to regain the UFC Heavyweight Championship. Cain’s last fight was a return fight with Bigfoot Silva that ended once again in the first round with Cain’s hand raised. Still, the impact of his Dos Santos fight is felt today because it exposed flaws in what what many thought was an unbeatable heavyweight.

Shogun Rua gets Revenge on Lyoto Machida

While the first fight between then UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida and Shogun Rua ended in a controversial decision in Machida’s favor the result was much different in their immediate rematch. Shogun dropped Machida in the first round of their fight at UFC 113 and captured the UFC Light Heavyweeight Championship. He lost it in his next fight against the “future of the Light Heavyweight division”, and current champion Jon Jones, but his revenge on Machida stands as a truly memorable moment.
