Just days after the announcement was made that Stephen “Wonderboy”Thompson had injured his knee and was forced out of his match-up with Besam Yousef at UFC, the organization has named Matt Riddle as his replacement.
Riddle was last seen submitting Chris Clements at UFC 149 in Calgary earning the Submission of the Night bonus in the process. That win was eventually changed to a no-contest after his post-fight drug test came back for marijuana. Riddle was issued a medical marijuana card by the state of Nevada, but that wasn’t enough to convince the commission not to take away his hard fought victory.
Riddle was also issued a 90 day suspension which has since passed.
Thompson will be out a minimum of two months with a torn meniscus. The two-fight UFC veteran is having his knee operated on as I write this and will begin rehab as soon as he gets clearance from his doctors.
Yousef has one fight in the UFC which took place in April on the UFC on Fuel TV card in Sweden. He was submitted by Simeon Thoresen in the second round via rear naked choke.
UFC 154 will take place on November 17th in Montreal and will be headlined by a welterweight title unification bout between champion Georges St. Pierre and interim champion Carlos Condit.
Johny Hendricks will meet Martin Kampmann in the co-main event in a bout that should determine the number one contender in the welterweight division.Tags: Besam Yousef, Carlos Condit, featured, georges st. pierre, johny hendricks, martin kampmann, Matt Riddle, mma, MMA NEWS, Stephen Wonderboy Thompson, ufc, UFC 149, UFC 154, ufc news, welterweights
