Yesterday, we learned that UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez had suffered a knee injury in training and was thus forced out of his scheduled main event title fight with Fabricio Werdum at UFC 180.

With that news, the UFC decided to pit perennial contender Mark Hunt against Fabricio Werdum with the winner being crowned the UFC’s new interim heavyweight champion.

The now 40-year-old former K1 Champion, Mark Hunt, recently spoke with MMAFighting, where he stated that his only worry about the short-notice fight is making weight, his words:

“Don’t think I [hestitated],” he told MMA Fighting. “Only challenge is making weight.”

Hunt weighed about 302-pounds when he received the call on Tuesday night regarding replacing the injured Velasquez. That means the “Super Samoan” will have just over 3 weeks to shed the 37-pounds required to make the UFC’s heavyweight limit of 265-pounds.

Hunt was able to cut 18-pounds in 24 hours prior to his last octagon bout with Roy Nelson, so this should be a “cakewalk”, no pun intended.
