When interviewed recently by MMA.TV, UFC Fight Night 33 headliner Mark Hunt discussed his last loss against recent title challenger Junior Dos Santos.
“I thought I did well in the first round then I got caught with that big shot. My hearing was gone. I couldn’t hear my corner, I couldn’t hear anything… It was a couple of punches Junior got me with. He was hitting me with a lot of right hands – I was trying to counter with the left hook but he kept getting me with the right hand. My hearing was pretty toasted.”
His loss of hearing wasn’t the only injury he received, however. He also suffered a grizzly broken toe, but stresses that he does not want to make excuses for the loss, which came via a third round spinning heel-kick.
“I’m not going to use my broken toe as an excuse,” said Hunt. “I got chopped up and lost to Junior, he was the better man on the night and I accept it. I just have to move on and get on to the next match. If I could get a rematch it would be good but I’m not going to say, ‘I broke my toe and I should have won that fight.”
