UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, Marc Ratner, stated today that the UFC’s debut on FOX Sports 1 set for August 17 at the TD Garden in Boston will definitely happen.
Mr. Ratner issued the statement following an article written by the Boston Herald on Tuesday, indicating that the August event was in jeopardy.
“The show will definitely be taking place.” said Ratner, who noted he was working on the paperwork issue that the newspaper wrote about. Marc is currently trying to get all fighters on the show, (who are not American citizens), social security numbers before the show takes place.
Ratner went on to say that no other state requires fighters who are not American citizens to have social security numbers, and that the UFC was not required to get them for non-citizens when it first held an event in Boston in 2010.
The event, which takes place as the main sports program on the first day of the debut of Fox Sports 1, is headlined by a light heavyweight bout between former UFC champ Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and former top contender Chael Sonnen.
Earlier today, the UFC sent out a release noting that tickets were going on sale for the show today to Fight Club members (as planned), and will go on sale to the public this Thursday, June 20.
