The always-calculated Rory MacDonald knows he can get back on track Saturday at UFC 170.
MacDonald was knocking on the door for a title shot in the welterweight division before Robbie Lawler derailed things with a split decision win over the Canadian in November at UFC 167.
MacDonald faces Demian Maia this weekend and, as he told The Great Debate Podcast, the Brazilian is the perfect stepping stone toward getting back near the top.
“I think he’s a great fighter. He’s one of the top guys in the welterweight division, and a win over him will put me right back at the top, hopefully for a title,” MacDonald said. “The door is open. The opportunity is right there; it’s just about seizing it. I’m going to take the first step to that with trying to knock out Demian Maia.“[This camp] was a much better experience. A huge difference. I’m real happy with this one. Hopefully on fight day it’s all the same.”
Should a win over Maia put MacDonald next in line for a crack at the welterweight belt? Or is that spot reserved for the winner of Carlos Condit and Tyron Woodley?Tags: demain maia, MMA NEWS, Rory MacDonald, ufc 170, ufc news
