Luke Rockhold Still Bitter But Thinks Weidman Will ‘be the one to break Belfort’

Nobody likes to lose. And in the sport of MMA fighters hold on to the hope to one day be able to avenge that loss.

Luke Rockhold is no different. Obviously, still a bit sore about his first round knock out loss at UFC on FX 8 to UFC No. 1 Middleweight contender Vitor Belfort. Luke Rockhold took some time with “The MMA Hour” to discuss how he plans on avenging the embarassing defeat that broke his nine fight win steak and left a sour taste in the former Strikeforce Middleweight Champ’s mouth.

“It’s safe to say I’m somewhat over it,” said Rockhold, “but, I don’t think I’ll be completely over it until I get my rematch and return the favor. It’s the first time I’ve lost since my second fight back in 2007. This is the UFC and I wanted to get started off on the right foot. Losses don’t sit well with me.”

However, Rockhold will have to get in line. Vitor is scheduled to face off against current UFC Middleweight Champ Chris Wiedman sometime this year. Rockhold has predictions of his own when it comes to Vitor vs Weidman, and he believes that the champ will bring Belfort’s momentum to a halt.

“I think Chris beats him and of course I’m interested in the fight. I think he’ll get the take down and I think he’ll control him. Chris is a smart guy and he sticks to the gameplan and he’s a tough wrestler. If he gets that early take down, it’s a different world for Vitor. People haven’t really gotten to that point. I strayed from the gameplan and I obviously got caught with some crazy stuff. I think Chris will stick to it and he will be the one to break him. And in Vegas wouldn’t hurt either, a little more strict conditions.”

That last comment a poke at the recent scrutiny Belfort has been facing in regards to his testosterone replacement therapy (TRT).

Although Rockhold would love another chance to get his hands on Belfort he will have to work his way back up to that opportunity. His next appearance in the Octagon will come on January 15 in Duluth, Georgia at UFC Fight Night 35 as he faces off against Costa Philippou in the main event of the evening.
