Lloyd Irvin States He Will File Lawsuit Against Mike Fowler

The controversy that broke out yesterday surrounding Lloyd Irvin and a former student, Mike Fowler, has escalated to a potential legal issue as Irvin stated to Bloody Elbow Wednesday that he will file a lawsuit against Fowler.

Irvin’s statement came in an email correspondence, which BE later published. In it, Irvin asks, “Do you have a address for Mr. Fowler? We are going to file a lawsuit against him and I would like an address to pass to the attorney.”

Bloody Elbow informed Fowler of this statement, to which he responded, “awesome, thanks.”

In Fowler’s Facebook post that sparked this legal feud, the 5-time American National Jiu Jitsu champion called Irvin a “rapist,” “bully,” and “sexual predator.” Over the past 24 hours, many people have responded to Fowler’s post, prompting additional comments from Fowler.

Many of the people responding asked Fowler if he was talking about the New Year’s Eve case in which two of Irvin’s male students raped a female student. Fowler reiterated that his comments and concerns were not aimed at that event, nor were they aimed at Irvin’s previous trial for rape in 1990. It should be noted that Irvin was acquitted of all charges in this case.

Fowler expressed this over several posts, explaining, “im not writing about theNYE…im writing about LI and what he been and currently doing […] I am referring to current rapes. Wouldn’t be suprised if its lasted the past quarter century.

“[We] are calling him a rapist because that [is] what he is still.doing. and yes I know some.of the girls. To your knowledge…no…to my own and others is yes.”

Fowler’s allegation of knowing some of Irvin’s female victims is similar to a public statement from Jordan Schultz, another former student of Irvin, that alleges Irvin psychologically manipulated and sexually assaulted one of his female students. It was allegations like this that caused many of Irvin’s high-level former students to cut ties with the school.

Lloyd Irvin did not immediately respond to Bloody Elbow’s inquiry for further comment on the lawsuit.

All of this comes as the IBJJF World Jiu Jitsu Championships began today in Long Beach, CA. Black Belt competitions are scheduled to begin Saturday.
